Office furniture and hygiene: a few useful tips

1. Wipe the desk with a cleaning cloth once a week

Make sure you wipe the desk quickly every week. You touch the desk several times every day, so it is important that it is kept as free of bacteria as possible. Bacteria cannot spread very quickly, so you don't have to worry about them infecting your entire desk at once. However, it is important to clean the bacteria breeding ground regularly.

Always use a good cleaning agent for this cleaning, preferably with extra substances that prevent bacteria. This way you not only enjoy a clean desk immediately after cleaning, but you can also enjoy a bacteria-free and clean desk for the next few days.

Also clean the cloth thoroughly after cleaning, so that the bacteria cannot spread further through the cloth. This prevents you from wiping your desk with a cloth full of bacteria a week later.

2. Vacuum your office chair

The fabric on your office chair can absorb dirt. There is a lot of dust hanging around in the office, and you would rather not have this on your office chair all day. You can hit the seat of the office chair clean with a stick, but it is more effective to quickly go over it with a vacuum cleaner. This way you vacuum up all the dirt and you immediately have a clean office chair.

Be careful with certain types of fabric. For example, you don't want to damage leather, so make sure the vacuum nozzle is not too close to the fabric. This can cause streaks, which significantly deteriorate the appearance and quality of the office chair.

3. Replace the garbage bag in the trash can

The garbage bag in your trash can is no longer clean after a week. This can start to smell at some point, so it is useful to replace it every week. This way, the bacteria on the discarded items do not have a chance to spread further. It is also easy to replace the garbage bag, as this takes about half a minute of work.

Also, don't throw food in your trash. Food quickly starts to smell and can therefore attract flies and other creatures. It is therefore better to throw these in the general waste bin of the office.

4. Make it a weekly routine

Hygiene is not something you do today and be done with it for the rest of the year. Make the weekly cleaning of office furniture a standard part of your working week. For example, put this on the agenda for every Friday afternoon, so that you can structure it. This significantly increases the hygiene of your workplace and helps prevent you from getting sick in the office.
