An “ergonomic working position” refers to the way a person positions his or her body while performing tasks in the workplace, with the aim of promoting comfort, safety and efficiency. Here are some important aspects of an ergonomic working position:

  1. Correct sitting position: Make sure the chair is adjusted so that the back is well supported and the feet rest flat on the floor. The knees should be at the same height as the hips or slightly lower to reduce pressure on the lower back.
  2. Proper desk height: The desk should be set at a height where the forearms are horizontal and the wrists are straight when the person is typing or writing. This prevents strain on the shoulders and neck.
  3. Use of ergonomic accessories: Ergonomic keyboards, mice and other accessories can help reduce strain on the hands, wrists and arms by promoting a natural hand position and preventing excessive reaching movements.
  4. Regular breaks and exercise: Get up regularly, stretch your legs and walk around to promote blood circulation and reduce muscle tension. This also helps reduce fatigue and increase productivity.
  5. Proper monitor position: The top of the computer screen should be set at eye level, approximately an arm's length away from the user, to avoid strain in the neck and shoulders. The screen should be directly in front of the user to prevent excessive twisting of the neck.
  6. Variation of position: Encourage variation in sitting position during the day, for example by using a sit-stand desk or by changing position regularly. This helps to reduce the strain on the back and other parts of the body.

Promoting ergonomic working posture can help prevent musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, neck pain and carpal tunnel syndrome, and can improve overall health and wellbeing in the workplace.
