Tips for good sitting posture

This is how you work on good sitting posture:

  • Always adjust your chair to your body and change your sitting position regularly.
  • Make time every 20 to 30 minutes to take a break from sitting, stand up and move.
  • Stretch every now and then.

Tips for good sitting posture

  • For a good sitting posture, your feet are fully on the ground and your knees are lower than your hips.
  • Leave some space between the seat of your chair and your knee. A simple trick to check that? If your fist fits between your seat and the back of your knee, you have enough room.
  • The low back support of your chair should reach just above your waistband.
  • Support your shoulders against the backrest. Avoid bending forward and lean back slightly.

To make it easier for you to adopt a good sitting position, we give some additional tips:

  • Don't have an adjustable chair? This is how you guarantee yourself a good sitting position:
    • Not enough support for your lower back? Place a rolled up towel between your back and the backrest.
    • Are you too low? Place a cushion on the seat of your chair.
    • Are you sitting too high and your feet don't touch the ground? Provide a boost.
  • A good sitting position is also more than desirable in the car. This is the ideal position:
    • elbows slightly bent;
    • upper legs slightly horizontal;
    • knees slightly bent.

Also consider the backrest: it must provide sufficient support over the entire length. Not enough support at the bottom? Put a cushion in between!

Do you have an office job? Ensure good sitting posture with these tips:

  • Always place your screen and keyboard directly in front of you.
  • Do you have an adjustable chair? Adjust your backrest dynamically.
  • Is your office table adjustable? Set them at elbow height.
  • Make sure the top of your screen is completely at eye level. This way you always look straight in front of you and that is better for your neck. Do not raise your shoulders too much, but let them hang down relaxed.
  • Keep an arm's length distance between your eyes and your screen
  • Move your computer mouse from your forearm and not from your wrist.
  • Place your keyboard about six inches from the edge of the table.
